Create Template
A template is a monetized, pre-configured WordPress site or layout, including themes, plugins, settings, and content. It's used to quickly spin up new websites with the same setup. InstaWP allows you to create monetized templates and sell them through your channel or InstaWP.
In this documentation, we will explore how to:
Let’s get started 🚀
🎥 Watch: How to Create Templates in InstaWP
Create a New Template
InstaWP allows you to create a new template through any of the following two methods:
Method 1
Step 1: Go to the Sell > Templates page and click on the Add Template button to create a new template. A new modal window will appear with a site list from which you can create a template.

Step 2: Select a site you want to create your template with. Then, click Next.

Step 3: You will now be prompted to save the Template by filling out the following fields:
| Fields | Description |
|---|---|
| Template Name | Name of the template |
| Description | Description of the template |
| Template Pricing | Select free template or paid template that can be used by you or your team. |
| Instant Template | When you create a new site from the template, it takes about 5- secs of time. Selecting this option will instantly create a new site. Only available for premium accounts. |
Now, enter the template name and other options according to your preference and click Save. Your template will be created within a few moments.

Initially, the state of the temples is in progress. It takes some time to be ready. Once the template status is changed to ready then the user can create the site from this template but not before.
Method 2
Step 1: Go to Sites and click on the Save Template/template button from the site you want to make the template with.

Step 2: Enter template name, select Template from the options, and other options according to your preference, and click Save. Your template will be created within a few moments.

| If a template based on this site already exists, you will find "Save As New" or "Overwrite Existing" radio buttons at the top. To test, you can create a new template from the same site from the site page.
Once you've created your template, you can delete the parent site from which you chose to generate it.
Delete a Template
To delete a template, you can follow the steps from the demonstration below:
Step 1: Go to Sell > Templates and click the vertical ellipsis on the template you want to delete. Select Delete from the options.

Step 2: A confirmation window will appear. Click the Delete button from the window.

Why can't I delete this template?
If something still depends on the template, InstaWP stops the delete and shows one of these messages. Clear the blocker it names, then delete the template again.
| Message you see | Why | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| "You are not allow to delete because it is used in Store." | The template is listed on the Store. | Remove the template from the Store first. |
| "You are not allow to delete because of active WaaS templates." | The template is used by a WaaS. | Remove the template from that WaaS first. |
| "You can't delete this while permanent sites created from it still exist. Delete those sites first, then try again." | Permanent sites made from this template are still running. | Delete those sites first. They are listed under the template, not in your main Sites list. If the template is used on a WaaS, the sites are listed under that WaaS instead (see below). |
| "You are not allow to delete because of active orders." | The template is monetized and has completed sales. | Contact support for help with this template. |

Template used on a WaaS: sites your customers created from the template through a WaaS still count as sites created from the template. So you'll see the "permanent sites" message even when nothing is listed under the template itself. Go to Sell > WaaS, open the WaaS that uses the template, select Sites, and delete the sites there. Then delete the template again. See Delete a WaaS for a screenshot.
When you delete several templates at once, any template with a blocker is skipped and the rest are deleted.
Deleting a template is different from deleting its parent site. Deleting the parent site does not delete the template, and the blockers above only apply to deleting the template itself.
