Migrate Site

InstaWP lets you migrate any WordPress site into InstaWP — or from one InstaWP site to another — by copying all of its files and database and reconfiguring the site to run on its new home. This is what you use to move a live site onto InstaWP, promote a staging build over a production site, or clone content between environments.

This is done with the AI-powered migration (InstaMigrate) — a guided, end-to-end workflow that connects both sites for you and transfers everything automatically. No SSH or server access is required — you only need WordPress admin access to each site.

Let's get started 🚀

How to Migrate Your WordPress Site to InstaWP From Any Host

AI Migration (InstaMigrate)

InstaMigrate walks you through four steps — Connect → Approve → Connecting → Migrating — and handles the whole transfer end-to-end (shown as mode E2E in your migration history).

Before you begin

  • You need WordPress admin access to both the source site (the site you are copying from) and the destination site (the site you are copying into).
  • ⚠️ Everything on the destination site is permanently overwritten with the source site. This cannot be undone — always migrate into a site you are happy to replace.

Step 1 — Open the migration dashboard

From the InstaWP Dashboard sidebar, click Migrations. Make sure the engine selector on the top right is set to AI, then click New Migration.

Step 2 — Connect your source site

You are taken to the InstaMigrate tool. In the first field, enter the Source site URL (the site you want to copy from) and click Connect.

InstaMigrate Connect step — enter the source and destination site URLs

After typing the URL, click the Connect button beside the field to start the authorization.

Click Connect to authorize the source site

Step 3 — Log in and approve the connection

InstaMigrate needs permission to read the source site. Click Yes, Continue to Login — you will be redirected to that site's WordPress login.

Continue to log in and authorize the site import tool

Log in with the site's WordPress admin credentials. WordPress then shows the Authorize Application screen — click Yes, I approve of this connection. This creates a secure application password so InstaMigrate can transfer the site, and you are returned to the InstaMigrate page automatically.

Step 4 — Connect your destination site

Back on the Connect step you'll see Source connected with a green check. Now enter the Destination site URL and click Connect, then repeat the same log-in-and-approve steps you did for the source.

Step 5 — Review and start the migration

Once both sites are connected, InstaMigrate shows a review screen with your source and destination. Confirm the details, note the overwrite warning, and click Start migration. (You can optionally expand Customize what to migrate to fine-tune what gets transferred.)

Step 6 — Migration in progress

InstaMigrate now transfers your files, content and database through eight automated steps, showing live progress. You can safely leave this page — you'll be notified by email once it's done.

Step 7 — Migration complete

When it finishes you'll see Your Migration is Complete! with a Migrated badge and a Visit site button to open your newly migrated site.

Your completed migration is also listed on the Migrations dashboard with mode E2E and a Completed status.
