Permanent and Temporary Sites ​

Every InstaWP site is either Temporary or Permanent. Temporary sites are deleted automatically after a set period, while permanent sites stay in your account until you delete them yourself. You can switch a site between the two at any time.

Temporary vs Permanent Sites ​

Temporary Site: ideal for quick testing, debugging, or one-time client demos. A temporary site has a limited lifetime and is deleted automatically once it expires.

Permanent Site: stays in your account until you delete it manually. Use it for ongoing projects or staging environments you need to keep.

The flag icon shows a site's status: a green filled flag means the site is Permanent, and an unfilled flag means it is Temporary.

Make a Site Permanent While Creating It ​

This method is only suitable for fixed plan users.

Step 1: Go to Sites and click the Add Site button to create a new site.

Step 2: Switch on the permanent site toggle, complete the remaining steps as you prefer, and create the site.

Switch an Existing Site from the Sites List ​

Step 1: Go to your Sites list in the InstaWP dashboard.

Step 2: Click the flag icon next to the site.

Step 3: Click Confirm to mark the site as temporary or permanent.

To switch it back, click the same flag icon again.

Switch an Existing Site from the Site Dashboard ​

Step 1: Go to your Sites list in the InstaWP dashboard.

Step 2: Click the site name to open its dashboard.

Step 3: Click the flag icon at the top right, beside the Change Site Plan button.

Step 4: Click Confirm to mark the site as temporary or permanent.

Notes ​

  1. Temporary sites have a lifespan of 2 days, after which they expire and are deleted.
  2. You can filter Temporary and Permanent sites separately on the Sites page.
  3. To delete a permanent site, first switch it to Temporary. See Delete Site.
