How to Host a Staging Site in a Client's Account?

When your project is complete & you're ready to hand over the website to your client, you might want your client to have full control of his website. InstaWP allows you to do so.

This guide explains how you can transfer a staging site to your client’s account and provide them with full access to their hosted site. By using this process, you ensure transparency, professionalism, and ease of use for you and your client.

When your client needs complete control of the website and hosting environment.

Transitioning the site from staging to live under the client’s account.

When you do not intend to manage a site on a client’s behalf.

Moving the hosting charges and billing to your client’s account.

Allowing clients to leverage InstaWP Live’s advanced hosting features independently.

Steps to Transfer a Staging Site to a Client's Account



Step 1 - Ask Your Client to Create an InstaWP Account


Ensure your client creates a free InstaWP account using social sign-on or email. Share this link if required. This account will be the destination for the site transfer.

Step 2 - Add a Payment Method


Request your client to configure a valid payment method in their account by navigating to My Account > Plan & Billing > Payment Method or clicking this link.

This is necessary for hosting and live site charges.



Step 3 - Provide Transfer Details


Currently, you need to manually reach out to us when you wish to transfer a staging site to a client’s account. Share the following details with InstaWP support:

URL of the Staging Site to be transferred.

The client’s Account Email associated with their InstaWP account.

Note: We are working on setting a procedure and automating it. It’ll be released soon.

Step 4 - Site ###### Transfer by InstaWP Team


InstaWP will handle the transfer process and move the staging site to your client’s account.

Step 5 - Go Live in the Client’s Account


Once the transfer is complete, the client can directly transition the staging site to a live environment within their InstaWP account.

For this, they simply need to click the Go Live button to initiate the process and effortlessly launch their website with our fully managed hosting service, InstaWP Live.



As you wish to host with InstaWP, choose InstaWP Live as your option.

Next, it’s essential to choose a plan that suits your client’s needs. For example, if they are hosting just 1 website with minimal infrastructure needs, Lite plan will work fine.



Finally, choose the site settings as deemed fit.



Proceed with the guided process and this site will be live in no time.



Once the hosted site is live, your client can also map a custom domain to it.

Step 6 - Optional Cleanup


After the site goes live for your client, you can delete the staging site from your account to keep things organized.
