Transfer Site Ownership
InstaWP allows you to transfer ownership of a site to another team within your account or to a completely different user via email. This is useful when you need to hand off a project to a client, move a site between your own teams, or reassign billing responsibility to another account.
How to Access Transfer Site Ownership
Navigate to the Sites page in your InstaWP dashboard. Locate the site you want to transfer, then click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the ACTIONS column on the right side of the site row.

From the dropdown menu, click Transfer Site Ownership.

A Transfer Site Ownership modal will appear, displaying the Site URL of the site being transferred and two destination type options:
Destination Team — Transfer the site to another team within the same account.
Invite via email — Transfer the site to a different user by entering their email address.

Method 1: Transfer to a Destination Team (Same Account)
Use this method when you want to move a site between teams under the same InstaWP account.
Step 1: In the Transfer Site Ownership modal, make sure Destination Team is selected as the Destination Type (it is selected by default).

Step 2: Click the Destination Team dropdown and search for or select the team you want to transfer the site to. The dropdown will display matching teams — your own teams will be labeled with an "Own team" badge.

Step 3: Optionally, add a Message to provide context for the recipient team.

Step 4: If the site is on a paid plan, you will see a Paid site notice in yellow. This informs you that the destination team will become responsible for future billing. Check the box that says "I understand the billing responsibility will move to the destination team" to proceed.

Step 5: Click the green Request Transfer button to complete the transfer.

Step 6: The transfer completes immediately for same-account team transfers. You will see a "Success — Site transferred successfully" notification in the top-right corner. The site will no longer appear under your current team's Sites list.

Step 7: Switch to the destination team using the team switcher in the top-right corner of the dashboard. You will see the transferred site now listed under that team.

Method 2: Transfer to a Different User via Email
Use this method when you want to transfer site ownership to a user on a different InstaWP account.
Step 1: In the Transfer Site Ownership modal, click the Invite via email tab.

Step 2: In the Invite email field, enter the email address of the recipient. The email must belong to an existing InstaWP user account.

Step 3: Optionally, add a Message to provide context. Check the billing acknowledgment checkbox if the site is on a paid plan.
Step 4: Click the green Request Transfer button.

Accepting a Transfer Request (Recipient Side)
When a transfer request is sent via email, the recipient receives a "Site Transfer Request Received" email from InstaWP Transfers. The email contains details about the request including the requester's name, site name, site URL, and the message.

Step 1: Click the Open Transfer Request button in the email. (If you are on different page in InstaWP Dashboard, click on the 2 sided arrow button to go to site transfer request page as shown in screenshot below)

Step 2: On the Transfer Requests page, you will see the pending transfer with a "Pending" status badge. Review the request details.
Step 3: Select the Destination Team from the dropdown — choose which of your teams should receive the site. Your own teams will display with an "Own team" badge.

Step 4: Click the green Approve button to accept the transfer. If you do not want to accept, click Reject Request instead.

Once approved, the site will appear in your selected team's Sites list and billing responsibility will transfer to your account.
