How to Configure File System Permissions for Your InstaWP Live Site
File system permissions help safeguard your InstaWP Live sites by controlling access to its files. This feature allows you to set specific access levels, such as read-only or read and write, ensuring only authorized users can make changes. Regularly updating permissions can prevent unauthorized modifications and enhance overall site security.
This document outlines the process of configuring file system permissions to enhance the security of your website. By following these instructions, you can easily set permissions to control access levels, such as read and write or read-only, ensuring that your site is protected from unauthorized changes.
To use this feature, navigate to the Hosting tab.
Within the Hosting tab, go to the settings of the desired site.
From the main dashboard, locate the file system permission option.
Here, you can choose from several permission settings: read and write, read-only, or read-only for guests.
Read and Write allows full access for viewing and modifying files; Read-Only restricts file modifications and is ideal for securing production sites; and Read-Only for Guests, which limits guest users to viewing files only, ensuring added protection against unauthorized changes.
Selecting the read-only option will add an additional layer of security to your site.
Incorrectly configuring file system permissions can impact your website's functionality. Ensure you assign appropriate permissions based on user roles and site requirements. For production sites, it's recommended to use the Read-Only setting to minimize the risk of accidental or malicious changes.
