How to Convert an InstaWP Live Site to a Multi-Site Setup
This document provides a detailed walkthrough for converting a WordPress site to a multi-site setup using the InstaWP Live platform. Follow these instructions to transform your single WordPress site into a network of sites with ease.
WordPress Multi-Site Support feature lets you create and manage multiple websites from a single WordPress installation. It's ideal for organizations, schools, or businesses that need separate sites for different departments, locations, or users, while still keeping centralized control over all sites. This setup saves time and resources by allowing shared themes, plugins, and administrative settings across the network.
WordPress Multi-Site Support feature was added to InstaWP in version 2.39.0.
Navigate to the ' Hosting ' tab from the main menu.
The multi-site setup can be configured to use either a subdirectory or subdomain approach. To utilize this feature, go to hosting tab, begin by accessing the settings of the Live site and selecting the option to convert to a multi-site. To proceed, click on the three-dot menu, navigate to 'More Options'.
Then proceed to 'Settings.' In the settings, you will find the option to convert to a multi-site. Click on 'Convert' to initiate the process.
You will then be prompted to choose between a subdirectory or subdomain format. For this example, select the subdirectory option and submit your choice. Once the process has completed loading, you can verify the changes.
It is imperative to carefully consider whether to use the subdomain or subdirectory option before proceeding with the conversion, as this action cannot be undone.
Selecting subdirectory will create each site as a subfolder within the main domain, such as example.com/site1. Alternatively, choosing subdomain will generate each site as a subdomain of the main domain, like site1.example.com
Once the multi-site update is successful, perform a magic login to verify the conversion. You should now see that the site has been successfully converted to a multi-site setup, and the new site structure will be visible.
After confirming the conversion, please remember that the multi-site conversion is non-reversible.
