Clone Site

InstaWP allows you to clone your InstaWP site by creating a replica of your existing site with all the design, content, and even the same credentials as its parent (original) site.

In this documentation, we will explore the steps to clone a staging site.

Let’s get started πŸš€

How to Clone a Site

Step 1: Open the Clone option

Go to the Sites page. Find the site you want to clone, click the β‹― (horizontal ellipsis) icon on its card, and select Clone from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Configure your clone

A dialog box will appear. Fill in the following:

  • Site Name β€” Enter a name for the clone, or leave blanck to auto-fill a random unique name.
  • Plan β€” Choose the plan for the clone site. This is independent of the parent site's plan.

Your clone can be on a different plan than its parent site. For example, if your main site is on the Sandbox plan, you can set the clone to run on any other plan (e.g., Pro, Turbo). The clone site will be billed independently at the rate of whichever plan you select.

Step 3: Create the clone

Click the Clone button. Your cloned site will be ready within a few moments and will appear on your Sites page.

A Few Things to Learn:

  • Credentials are inherited β€” The clone uses the same WordPress admin username and password as the parent site.
  • Changes are independent β€” Any edits made to the clone after creation do not affect the original site, and vice versa.

πŸ’‘ Did you know - You could copy the live website URL of the corresponding site and add InstaWP Connect Plugin to your live site to construct staging sites. Learn about adding connect plugin.
